Paul Kerensa on sitcom writing

Great blog post from Paul Kerensa on sitcom writing, over at the British Comedy Guide.

He makes the excellent point that rules and tools and structures should help you, not get in the way. Use them when they make your work better.

And that you have to start with funny characters (ie more than one usually).

And sitcoms should preferably be funny.

Sounds obvious but I know I keep forgetting, in amongst all the other clever things we want our sitcoms to be. We all need to be slapped in the face with the obvious and difficult truth sometimes. Go on. Head over there and get your slapping.
